COURSE DESCRIPTION Part I. Theories of resilience and their integration into regional development models - The theory of change: adaptability and transformability - Current trends related to resilience - The determinants of resilience from a multidimensional perspective (economic, social, institutional, geostrategic) - Systemic versus individual resilience Part II. Institutional approach of resilience: components and impact on decreasing the development gaps - Methods for assessing the institutional resilience capacity - Comparative analysis at NUTS0 level (country) and NUTS2 level (region): vulnerabilities and risks - Central and Eastern European economies during crisis and their shocks resistance. A comparative approach Part III. Building resilience through human capital development - Competences, skills and resilience capacity - Education mismatch, human capital and labour market status: core vs. peripheral economies of the EU - Measuring labour mismatch in EU Part III. Policy recommendations on future policies for enhancing resilience - Good practices concerning the responses to a shock (internal or external) - The Cohesion Policy 2014-2020: a critical overview from the institutional point of view  - Enhancing labour market resilience - policies and practices to address the education and employment mismatch Assimilated specific competences: - Highlighting the economic and spatial peripherality phenomenon within the EU regions and applying case studies which will provide a more relevant, in-depth conducted study of the many facets of this phenomenon; - Understanding the impact of human capital in fostering the resilience capacity of a country; - Obtaining results  regarding the role of institutional resilience in the development process; - A better understanding of the macroeconomic and structural dynamics that the EU Member States registered as a result of participation in the integration process (regional disparities ante- and after-integration). Specific objectives of the course: - Ensuring an interdisciplinary nature of the discipline which to combine regional economics with the institutional economy; - Analysing the the core-periphery phenomenon within the European Union; - Analysing various socio-economic indicators, spatial/accessibility indicators related to resilience matters in order to identify ways for the improvement of the regional policies.
